nook: Multiple Platforms
Nook is now a broad term for B&N’s e-book service. There are physical nook e-reader devices, but there are also applications for ipad, android, pc, and mac. I have been reading “Quitter” on my Android phone. I didn’t want to always read on my phone, and thought, “Let’s download the version for my mac!” So I went to BN.com, found Nook, and then saw the “Beta” label over the mac version. Great. Most experiences I have had with Beta programs have been pleasant. How long was gmail in beta? This should be fine – at least I can use the program to read the book. Maybe I can’t do highlights or search or other advanced functionalities. The basics of the program should be there, right? Nope.
The .zip file was downloaded and extracted.”Nook for mac.dmg” was executed and installed. The program loaded and a dark window with this logo appeared:
Nothing happened. I reloaded the program. The next time I noticed the nook words had a gradient animation to indicate a loading function. The gradient got stuck on “n” the second run through. Dead in the water.
Since this was a beta, I clicked on “about” and found a “copy log to clipboard” option. Here it is:

Do I know what this means? A little bit. Could I fix this? No way. Was there a place to report this error/bug/whatever this is? Of course not. If there was I couldn’t find it.
I guess I will be waiting to use nook on my mac once the “beta” label gets removed.
If you have any insight into an easy fix, let me know.
Thanks for freetouse and kateB, this issue seems to be resolved (see comments below). Place the “Nook for Mac” application in a new folder within your applications folder. Title the new folder “NookforMac” or “NookForMac”. Try both if you have problems. Run the application then. If this does not work, redownload the application from BN’s site and it should work. Let us know if this worked or not for you.
Thanks again to freetouse and kateB.
